Prevalence of fundamental movement skill proficiency among Iranian children aged 2.5–14 years

ObjectivesTo determine the prevalence of fundamental movement skill (FMS) proficiency among a sample Iranian children.DesignCross sectional, representative 2200 children aged 2.5–14 years (50% girls), living in Tehran 2018.MethodsTrained field staff assessed 7 locomotor and 4 object control skills educational settings using Ohio State University Scale Intra-Gross Motor Assessment (OSU-SIGMA). Scores for levels 1–3 represent immature performance level represents proficiency. Data were analyzed by age sex.ResultsOverall, prevalences higher boys than girls. Proficiency walking running emerged from 2.5 years, more complex (i.e., jumping, skipping, hopping, ladder-climbing) at 6 years. The skipping all low <9 All ≥9 proficient skills.
